In the fall of 2019 David R. Okrent, was appointed to act as the February 2020 Special Editor for the Suffolk Lawyer’s Special Edition focus on Elder Law.  Posted here is a redaction of two of the articles that were printed in that edition.  The first was written by Mr. Okrent on updated 2020 tax and Medicaid numbers.  The second was written by Jeffrey Thompson, who is the current Executive Director of The Villa at Westhampton, on senior living options for older adults in New York.   Both articles are great references.  Mr. Okrent’s is a handy quick reference article on relevant 2020 tax and Medicaid figures.  Mr. Thompson’s article is a brief survey of the different cre and services permitted under the licenses New York State grants to senior living housing, like assisted living facilities, nursing homes, etc.  Knowing a facilities license is critical in choosing it since it dictates the care and/or services they can provide.
